We are excited to offer Youth Enrichment Programs. Our goal is to provide high-quality enrichment programs for our youth that build self-confidence through learning and fun activities.

Karate

Princeton Ata

Youth can learn beginner to advanced karate with experienced and trained instructors from Princeton Martial Arts.  The curriculum is based on positive mental attitude and high goal setting for all ages, fitness levels and abilities. Students learn kicks, strikes, sparring, forms, dodging, and blocking, ascending through a system of 11 belts.

Indoor Flag Football 

Play in one of the fastest growing national sport leagues. Flag football emphasizes speed, agility and skill. Players learn fundamentals of football, and how to run plays.

Basketball League 

This co-ed league taught by Tonya Grant-Brown of Paying it Forward Enterprises, Inc. will be helping youth expand their skills and knowledge in the game of basketball through proven techniques and fundamental training. The first two weeks are all instructional, the remaining eight weeks include 15 minutes of instruction and 45 minutes of games. All youth receive equal playing time.

This clinic will help boys and girls expand their skill set and knowledge in the game of basketball through proven techniques and fundamental training. This program will run for 4 weeks, which include introduction drills, team concept drills, and modified basketball games.

National Junior Tennis and Learning will teach tennis skills, drills, and games utilizing the USTA short court program for youth 10 and under.

Soccer Shots Premier focuses on individual skill, fitness and sportsmanship, providing an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction.

Circus Jamboree (Ages 7-12)

Taught by Jessie S. Hoops . In this class, students will explore elements of the circus arts including; flow arts props (hula-hoops, poi, flags, flower sticks, ribbon wands), balance, acrobatics, pyramid building, creative movement, and group choreography. Students will work together as a class to create their own group circus performance. The performance will be presented for parents, family and friends at the last class of the semester.

Hoop Dance (Ages 8+)

Taught by Jessie S. Hoops . Hoop Dance or “Hooping” is a form of dance and artistic expression that is both challenging and rewarding at any age. It helps build hand-eye coordination, body awareness, self-confidence, and overall fitness level. In this class students will learn how to spin a hoop on more than just the waist. Students will learn both the basics and more challenging combination tricks, hoop illusions, and jumps. No experience necessary, all skill levels welcome. Hoops provided for use during class time.

Move and Groove (Ages 5-9)

The Rech Center for Performing Arts is excited to offer a music and movement class for children ages 5-9. This class will focus on proper stretching techniques and cardio warm-up exercises to encourage muscular strength and endurance. Our students will learn fun dance and hip hop combinations each week throughout the session. These combinations will teach our student’s musicality, rhythm and give them the freedom to express their feelings through movement. This class is a great opportunity to promote social awareness and help improve their coordination. Our Music and Movement class fosters a positive and creative environment for children to learn and grow!

Tumbling & Gymnastics (Ages 5-9)

The Rech Center for Performing Arts is proud to offer a Tumbling and Gymnastics class for children ages 5-9. This class will focus on proper stretches and exercises to warm-up the muscles for tumbling and beginner gymnastics activities. Our class will focus on increasing flexibility, developing strength and improving coordination by using apparatus such as a low beam and horizontal bar. Each week the students will learn new skills which helps to improve concentration and mental focus. This class will promote discipline in a fun environment for the children to become physically fit and develop core strength!

Wickline Casting

Wickline Casting

Wickline Casting is based out of Philadelphia and has casted over 10,000 roles in commercials, film and TV productions. Wickline Casting currently teaches youth throughout the tristate area about the film and TV industry through after school and camp programs for the past 18 years. Kathy Wickline designer of these programs is a top casting director of TV and Film in the Philadelphia area. Program instructors are actors and directors with impressive credits.

Intro to Film & TV

Acting and Behind the Scenes – this introductory to intermediate level program has youth working as cast, crew, and writers to produce various film segments. Kids learn a basic level of acting, directing, and operating the camera. Also script writing, storyboarding and improvisation will be introduced. During the course of the program they will work on commercials, film scenes, music videos and public service announcements.

Acting for the Camera

This program focuses on the ‘acting’ part of filmmaking. Youth learn real auditioning skills by working with scripts for commercials and film readings. Instructors help students learn to personalize characters and follow direction, block for the camera and read with their ‘co-stars’. Improvisation and ad-libbing will be taught as a basis of making acting choices and trusting their instincts. Included in the program is a list of legitimate talent agencies.

TV Production Club

Intermediate to advanced Club meets weekly during the year to produce various commercials, public service announcements, interviews and stories for publication on social media, Instagram, and the Club’s website. Students can focus on all aspects of TV production of just writing, producing, editing or on camera. Professional staff coach and advise students on developing weekly content.

East Coast Recording

East Coast Recording

Lead by Grammy award winning producer Jim Cravero, who is one of the leaders in the music industry on the east coast. Jim spends equal amount of time producing music as well as supervising youth programs at 17 locations in the tri-state area. Jim’s vision is to provide an opportunity for youth to understand the workings of the music industry by producing a song from start to finish. For some students the program enables them to pursue their dreams of working in this industry.

Wanna Be a Pop Star

If your child enjoys singing and performing, then this is the class for your up-and-coming superstar! Not only will your child have a blast singing and performing their favorite karaoke songs, but we will also provide some silly dress ups and props so your child can perform and look like their favorite pop star. At the end of each session all students will perform and will be video-recorded and made available online for you to view and enjoy. While having fun, students will also learn basic vocal warm-ups and performance tips that will help build their confidence. Students will also play singing games similar to lip-sync competition and Name That Tune. This is a super-fun class! Dress ups and props are provided, however, students are welcome to bring their own favorite costumes as well!

Singing & Song Writing

Does your child play an instrument? Is your child learning to play an instrument? Would they be interested in writing their very own songs? With this class your child will be introduced into the world of songwriting. Students will explore the concepts of tempo, feel, and style as a foundation for creating their next hit song. Students will experience writing a catchy chorus, developing and writing a verse,
and introducing and placing a bridge. Students will create an intro, learn about building intensity, and completing a song. Students will experience songwriting that will last a lifetime.

Hip-Hop & Rap

This class will introduce students to the art of Hip-Hop. Students will learn a brief history of Rap music and create their very own beats using the latest music software. We will teach rhyming concepts and the importance of writing a good hook. They will use these concepts, along with their own life experiences, to write lyrics. Students will then record this rap over their new beat to create their very own Hip-Hop song. On the final day students will receive a CD of their new song to enjoy for years to come.

Voice & Production Club

Students will have a blast developing their skills in Songwriting, Music Recording, Voice-overs and Audio Equipment Operation. Students can work interchangeably as talent and/or crew, behind the scenes or behind the microphone. They'll learn vocal warm-up routines, perform voice-overs and TV/radio announcements, and the best part is they will have the unique opportunity to create their very own song from start to finish and record it live! Students will produce a song from beginning to end and have a copy of that song to share with friends and family for years to come.

Youth Program

First Session: 
Crazy Chemworks: each week students focus on a different chemistry based project. Weekly topics are: Lab Works, Junior Reactors, pH pHactor, Slime Time, Chem in a Flash, The Glow Show, Super Sticky Stuff, Dry Ice Capades.

Second Session: 
System 2: Heat, light, magnets, slime and static electricity! Through the course of System 2, children will harness heat energy, learn the science behind cotton candy and explore the properties of both light and color. Your Mad Scientists will experiment with magnets, examine curious optical illusions and analyze the amazing properties of slime! Children will get to know their taste buds better and witness a hair-raising demonstration of static electricity!

Engineering For Kids

Engineering For Kids  brings science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), to kids ages 4 to 14 in a fun and challenging way through classes, camps, clubs, and parties. We are proud to inspire children to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning. Engineering is, after all, one of the fastest growing industries in the world!

Engineering

Program: Jr. Robotics and Aerospace Engineering 

Junior Robotics Engineering: Adventure Stories. This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. Using LEGO® bricks, students build an airplane rescue, a giant escape, and a sailboat storm. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.

Junior Aerospace Engineering: Taking to the Skies.The Junior Aerospace Engineering classes introduce our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design. Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct airplanes, rockets, helicopters, and more.

Program: Robotics 101 and Aerospace Engineering 

Robotics 101: During this program, students will learn the basics of designing, programming, and controlling a fully functional robot. Using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®, mathematical concepts, and engineering principles students will brainstorm, plan, test, and modify sequences of instructions to accomplish a given task. Students will also learn the sequence of communication between the robot, and the programmer by collecting and analyzing data using the robot's sensors.

Aerospace Engineering: Up, Up, and Away! During this program, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines. They construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect two marshmallow astronauts in a lunar vehicle, create their own air-powered rockets, and assemble a hot air balloon model that actually takes flight!

Program: Electronic Game Designing and Hardware Engineering

Apprentice Game Design: Students will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to create their own video game. Students design a racetrack, race cars and an environment in which their cars compete. At the end of the class, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game (Clickteam Fusion 2.5® does not support Mac or Android operating systems).

Apprentice Hardware Engineering: Get Wired with MaKey MaKey. Imagine designing a piano using celery or creating a custom digital training program. Now, envision playing video games using just your body, a bit of wire and your own imagination. In our hardware engineering program, students engineer their own customized video game controllers using a Makey Makey device and materials that can be found in just about any kitchen. Through the application of circuitry, acoustical engineering, and video game design, students discover new ways to interact with technology, all while creating unique designs in a fun collaborative environment.

Earn a Bike Internship

Area 7-10th graders can participate in a 24 hours internship to learn bike repair skills in the Clubs Bike Exchange at our Spruce Street Community Center. After completion they are eligible to select a bike worth up to $75 as a project repair bike to test their repair skills. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to participate in the Club’s Career Launch to work program at the Bike Exchange. Students who graduate from this program work 6-9 hours per week at the Bike Exchange.
